Discipleship Training
New Union Baptist Church believes that discipleship training is a very vital and integral part of the mininstry whereby Christians grow in obedience to and maturity in Christ Jesus according to the Word of God. Discipleship training is not an option if we examine closely the words of scripture. II Peter 3:18 is just one of many passages of scripture that commands Christians to "grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
Discipleship training is offered at New Union in all the age groups. The preschool and children's discipleship training is offered at the 7:00 p.m. hour on Sunday nights. The youth as well are involved in discipleship ministry at the 7:00 p.m. hour on Sunday nights.
The adult discipleship training ministry meets in various places at various times; however, the core adult discipleship ministry meets at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. The major thrust of intense discipleship training classes go from September through the first part of December and then from January through the first of April.
The four major blocks of categories for adult discipleship on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. include:
- What We Believe and Why (Southern Baptist Doctrine)
- The Christian Life and Growth in Christ
- Marriage and Family
- Ministries Involvement
Other times for adult discipleship ministry include:
- Sr. Adult Bible Study on Monday Mornings at 10:00 a.m.
- Men's Ministry Bible Study on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in a Home
- Ladies Bible and Book Study in a Home
- Other Specified Studies such as "Experiencing God" or "Disciples Prayer Life" in a Home or at the Church
All members of New Union are strongly encouraged to be a part of discipleship training in order to become mature in Christ according to the Word of God.
