Music Ministry
The overarching focus of the music ministry at New Union is to lead the congregation in worship of the Lord Christ Jesus through hymns and choruses that are scriptually and doctrinally sound and that minister to every age group. There are many avenues of musical expression available at New Union to accomplish this focus. We would like to bring these to your attention at this time.
There are opportunities for musical expressions of worship in every age group at New Union. The Preschool Choir meets weekly on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. to enhance children's (ages 3 through Kindergarten) understanding of who Christ Jesus is through songs of praise. This choir sings in the worship services usually every two months.
The Children's Choir, called S40S (Singing For Our Savior) also meets on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. for rehearsal. This choir, of course, is more advanced in the songs they sing and understanding of musical expressions of worship. The Children's Choir is made up of grades 1st through 5th and also sings about every two months and usually presents a spring musical. Some years they also present a Christmas Musical.
The Youth Choir/Praise Team meets on Sunday evenings to prepare for their own worship services, which meet before the breakout discipleship sessions. This rehearsal also prepares them for the different times they play and sing for the main worship services on Sunday mornings. This group usually presents a Christmas musical and a spring musical every other year.
The Adult Choir at New Union is very busy all year round. The main focus of this group is the preparation to lead the congregation in worship and choir specials. The Adult Choir presents a Christmas musical most every year along with Easter and Patriotic every other year.
Alongside the different choir ministries are the many groups, duets, and soloists that enhance the worhip of our Lord Christ Jesus. Included in the groups are the New Union Praise Team which helps lead the congregation in hymns and choruses, new and old, quite frequently. They also sing special music and do a wonderful ministry. The Ladies Ensemble consists of six ladies, two on each part, who have a heart for ministry by God's grace. They sing at least once a quarter on Sunday morning and night and do a blend of southern gospel, hymns and contemporary Christian songs. The New Union Quartet is a mixed group with a soprano, also, tenor and bass. This group also sings at least once a quarter on Sunday morning and evening. Their style is old time and new southern gospel favorites. There are quite a few duets and soloists that are truly used of the Lord Jesus by His Holy Spirit to bless the congregation.
New Union has an Orchestra consisting of trumpets, violin, french horn, baritone, flutes, woodwinds and drums that accompany along with the piano, keyboard, and organ. All members who are presently in the high school band and former high school band members are strongly encouraged to be a part of the orchestra in this very important ministry.
